Composed by Melissa Fey on June 28, 2026 at the Loblolly Marsh Nature Preserve
Song Sparrows serenade
along the trail,
Blackbirds calling
in the dale.
Rattlesnake Master
buds reaching high,
While a Common Yellowthroat
flies by.
Mountain Mist is
starting to bloom,
Ohio Spiderwort’s purple
I assume.
The quiet of the morning
is hard to beat,
While the gentle trail
passes under my feet.
Mosquitoes around my ears
do buzz,
The mist renders the distant landscape
a fuzz.
The False Indigo fronds
do bend,
To nature’s beauty
they all do lend.
The Cardinal’s calling
the Field Sparrows trill,
With all these
my heart doth fill.
This morning will
soon fade away,
But the memory of it
will forever stay.
